MER Clinic: Split Gears, a Quick and Inexpensive Solution

Presented by Pete Suhmann @ MER Suffolk 2012

Does your Proto 2000 diesel have cracked axle gears? The Proto models use the same design of half axles pressed into a plastic gear that Athearn began using many years ago. Unfortunately over time, they split along the mold lines, and being made of architectural plastic, no glue will stick to them. They can be replaced with new Athearn gears, but those are made of unobtainium. This clinic will demonstrate the quick and inexpensive process of repairing your axles. In addition, as time allows, Pete will also suggest ways to repower some of your inexpensive locomotives so that they run as well as the more expensive models.
